Caring for your powerchair in warm weather

Magic Mobility wheelchairs are designed to give you independence and help you go further in all conditions.

There are a few tips that we can give you to ensure you get where you need to go all summer long.

Before you head out, there are a few quick things you can do to protect your chair.

When you’re heading to the beach, or a similar potentially corrosive area, we recommend thoroughly coating all metal surfaces with a water dispersant like WD40 or Lanotec to create a barrier and protect your chair.

Remember to check your tyre pressure to ensure they’re at optimal pressure and in good condition. Keep in mind that you might need to adjust your tyre pressure depending on the terrain. Lower tyre pressures can provide more traction on sand, so be sure to check your user manual for the recommended tyre pressure for the terrain you’re on and the type of Magic Mobility chair that you own. If you’re concerned about punctures, we recommend getting a set of puncture resistant tyre liners to help avoid flat tyres or air leaks when heading out on tough terrain.

Extreme X8 user Kevin is able to go on the beach and explore trails in all conditions.

When you get home, we recommend wiping your chair down with a towel to ensure it stays in good working condition.

If you’re spending an extended amount of time outdoors, you might want to consider adding a sunshade to your powerchair. This can protect you from the summer sun’s harmful UV rays. Sunshades can be retrofitted to all Magic Mobility powerchairs.

Please keep in mind that all Magic Mobility powerchairs have electric batteries so must never be driven through water. This includes rivers, creeks and the sea.
