Go, go grandpa!

US grandpa of four, David, kindly shared his story about regaining the ability to enjoy his life out and about with his grandkids.

A licensed Medical Massage therapist who once toured extensively with the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment), David made a promise to himself to spend as much time as possible being a hands-on grandpa. Distressingly, David’s genetic muscular disorder gradually reduced his ability to do most of what he wanted to with his grandkids.

But that all changed this year, when David finally received his beloved Magic Mobility Frontier V6 AT, which fully restored his ‘Baba’ (grandpa) mojo and brought a great deal of joy back into his life.

David shared with us this lovely list of accomplishments. He said,

“The chair has truly become an extension of me and become my legs. I was no longer afraid, and I was free! I could go anywhere, and I surely did! Off to my first concert in many years!”

“To the local farm that I hadn’t been able to take the grandkids to in many years. The county fair where I finally saw my friends the Pawstars (frisbee dogs!) perform again and even got to cuddle a baby kangaroo in my V6! This Halloween, I’m pretty sure we attended 350 ‘trunk or treats’. OK, fine, it was only 4. We made it to ‘Boo at the Zoo’ and to touch a truck or two.”

Halloween was a highlight of David’s restored life as super-grandpa in his Magic Mobility Frontier V6 powerchair

Taking the kids treat or treating was a highlight of David’s new found freedom.

David’s muscular condition means his facial expression remains fixed. He jokes, “I promise there is a smile under that grumpy-looking face of mine. Had this disease not taken that ability away, I can guarantee you (my smile) would have been a mile wide.”

This Halloween was clearly a highlight of David’s restored life as super-Baba: “I spent 3 hours taking the kids around to trick or treat. We got to use the fancy driving lights on my V6 and we went until their little legs couldn’t take it anymore. Then Ryder (grandchild #3) pulled out an old Baba (Me) trick, switched up costumes and decided he wanted another round. Lights on and off we went!!”

Needless to say, this was the best Halloween in years, my chair performed flawlessly and gave me my life back and maybe a little more.”

“There is nothing better than being able to spend time with my Grands. … Special thanks to Mike Ehmann of Consolidated Medical Inc. and Sunrise Medical for going above and beyond to get me the chair of my dreams and for changing/saving my life.”
