Where are they now? Michael from Townsville

In August last year, we introduced you to Michael from Queensland who had just received his Frontier V6 Compact 40. Michael’s new powerchair was funded through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

This month we’re checking back in with Michael to see how he’s going with his new powerchair.

Michael’s Frontier V6 Compact 40 is easy to use inside

When he was looking for a new powerchair, Michael knew he needed something that would be versatile at work and at home.

Michael worked closely with his OT to ensure he found the right powerchair to suit his lifestyle. They decided on the Frontier V6 Compact 40, which would enable him to manoeuvre around the office and his house, and play outdoors with his daughter as well.

After a year and a half with his new powerchair, Michael says being able to go more places has made the biggest difference to his life.

“I’ve been out nearly every weekend to places I never thought I would be able to go,” Michael said. “I feel like I have no limitations, and I’m not afraid of exhaustion in my new powerchair.

“I always wanted to take my daughter to the beach and up to our local skate park. Now I can, and we go often.”

Michael loves being able to spend more time with his daughter, and play tiggy with her outside.

His powerchair also features lift and tilt functions. These features enable him to talk to others at eye level, and reach things on high shelves at home and at work.

Michael’s new powerchair enables him to look after and spend time with his daughter.

He says the tilt and lift function has been invaluable, as he’s able to adjust positions and keep comfortable throughout the day. He also says he found the chair’s capacity to transition from indoors to outdoors impressive.

“I can access local parks in my neighbourhood with ease,” Michael says. “I’m not afraid of tripping and falling anymore.

“This chair has given me back the feeling of freedom, which is something I haven’t had since I was in my teens.”
