Tackling new challenges with your team

Rob knows all about being part of a team. Before his accident in 2013, he was a keen rugby player and active outdoorsman.

Since he became a tetraplegic, the team that surrounds Rob has broadened to include family, friends and carers. With the help of his support crew, and his Magic Mobility Extreme X8, Rob has completed the infamous hard-core obstacle race Tough Mudder, not just once, but twice.

Rob says the team he assembled to complete Tough Mudder were instrumental in helping him from start to finish. His team was made up to two carers, for health reasons, and friends and family who made the obstacle course more enjoyable.

“Everything is more fun with others.”

“The really crucial thing about my team is that they’re willing to get really stuck into it and make sure that we complete the course together,” Rob says.

Rob’s Extreme X8 well and truly met the Tough Mudder challenge, proving robust enough to tackle the changes in terrain throughout the different obstacles.

While Rob acknowledges that he probably is the leader of his team, he says he doesn’t really see it that way.

“I think I’m much happier just being part of the same work that everyone else does. Part of it is setting the pace for everyone to work at, but we decide as a team how to approach each obstacle.”

“Having a great team with you makes it really worthwhile.”
