Hacks to harden your powerchair

Are you planning on an off-road adventure? Or just planning on taking on the challenges of inner-city streets? We know that wheelchair users can potentially encounter all kinds of upsets around every corner – from thumb tacks to broken glass. How do you keep your powerchair powering through these kinds of obstacles?

Hack 1

Puncture resistant tyre liners are a must for the mean streets and the off-road hills. Designed to take all the punches, the tyre liners are a simple yet completely effective way to get the ride you need. Magic Mobility worked with an Australian rubber manufacturer to develop an aramid fibre reinforced rubber compound for puncture resistance. The challenge was to ensure that our off-road knobby tyres could still maintain the extremely low PSI required. Puncture resistant tyre liners provide peace of mind for those concerned about leaks and punctures when going off-road and they are also available on our Crossover tyres. You can learn more about them here:

Hack 2

Don’t go anywhere without a standard tyre pump. Getting the right PSI is crucial for getting the right ride. Simply carry a standard pump with you at all times to deal with managing those pesky punctures (see above).

Hack 3

Carry with you zip ties and electrical tape. It might sound strange but sometimes things come loose. Carrying heavy duty accessories like these will help you deal with the sudden emergency.

Hack 4

For the extreme needs, carry a spare inner tube. With the help of your handy standard tyre pump this will get you out of any tricky situation.

Hack 5

Make sure you’ve got a set of those super handy Allen keys. Although our chairs are built tough, if you’re putting them through their paces you want peace of mind that joints are tightened at the end of the day.

Hack 6

For ultimate protection carry a battery charger. Extremely helpful for top ups during the day, especially if you’re really pushing through.
